The short answer
Every foreign visitor to Cancun and the rest of Quintana Roo must pay Visitax: 293 MXN per person per trip in 2026. Babies included. I know, it feels fussy. Pay it on visitax.gob.mx and keep the QR.
| Who pays | Every foreign visitor, including babies and children |
| 2026 amount | 293 MXN per person (2.5 UMA) |
| When | Any time during your stay, before you leave |
| Where | visitax.gob.mx only |
| Proof | QR code receipt (keep a screenshot) |
| Separate from | Mexico’s federal immigration fee, which is in your airline ticket |
Why the amount changes
The fee is set at 2.5 times the UMA, a reference unit Mexico updates every year, so it rises a little each February. The 293 MXN figure applies to 2026.
How to pay
- Go to visitax.gob.mx.
- Enter each traveller’s details, including passport numbers.
- Pay by card.
- Save the QR code receipt for each person.
Watch out for fake sites
Search results include look-alike sites that charge extra. Type the address yourself and make sure it ends in .gob.mx.
Will anyone check?
Checks at the airport have varied over time. Pay it anyway: it’s a legal requirement, and part of it funds sargassum clean-up and tourism promotion.
