Where to go out
For the big-club Cancun night, go to Punta Cancún. For a cheaper, more local night, go downtown. I like a festival crowd, but I still want to know how I am getting home, and the R-1 runs all night.

The Party Center
Around Punta Cancún, the clubs are clustered around the intersection of Boulevard Kukulcán and the point. Many clubs sell open-bar entry; prices change with the season and are highest during spring break.
Coco Bongo
Coco Bongo is Cancun’s best-known night out: a club combined with acrobatics, live acts and tribute shows. Tickets sell out on busy nights; book ahead. See Coco Bongo show.
Downtown
Avenida Yaxchilán and the streets around Parque de las Palapas have bars and cantinas where most customers are local.
Staying safe
- Use registered taxis or app rides; don’t accept rides from strangers.
- Keep an eye on your drink, and on how much is going into open-bar drinks.
- Carry a copy of your ID and only the cash you need.
- Don’t buy drugs. Drug-related violence is the main reason for security warnings in Quintana Roo.
