Overview
The Hotel Zone is the Cancun on the postcards: a narrow, 7-shaped strip of sand between the Caribbean and the Nichupté lagoon. Almost every big resort is here, along Boulevard Kukulcán, and addresses are kilometre markers. If you like a long flat run, the boulevard is the obvious loop. If you want a town, this is not it.
The three stretches
- North side (km 3–8): faces Isla Mujeres. Calm water at Playa Langosta and Playa Tortugas, plus ferry piers. Good for families.
- Punta Cancún (around km 9): the corner, with the Party Center, Coco Bongo, shopping centres and Playa Gaviota Azul.
- East side (km 10–22): long open-sea beaches, big resorts, La Isla mall, the El Rey ruins and Playa Delfines near the far end.
Getting around
The R-1 and R-2 buses run the length of the boulevard 24 hours a day for 12 MXN cash. Taxis are plentiful and Uber operates. See getting around Cancun.
Who it suits
First-timers, beach holidays, nightlife and anyone who wants everything in one place. It’s the most expensive part of Cancun, and outside Punta Cancún it can feel like a row of resorts rather than a town.
